The family of a Class 4 girl, allegedly raped and murdered while returning home from tuition in South 24 Parganas, West Bengal, has accused the police of initially neglecting their complaint. The girl’s aunt said she went missing on Friday while coming back from tuition.
Her father searched for her but, unable to find her, went to the police, only to be told to approach the Jayanagar Police Station. The family claimed the police did not take the matter seriously.
Tragically, the girl’s body was discovered the next morning on the bank of the River Ganges in Kripakhali village. The aunt reported that the girl’s body had multiple injuries, with her limbs appearing broken.
Baruipur Superintendent of Police, Palash Dhali, stated that an investigation was launched on Friday after the family filed a complaint when the girl did not return home by 8 PM. He emphasized that the government is taking the case seriously. The accused has since been arrested.
In response to the incident, protests erupted in the area, although police have since regained control of the situation. Dhali added, “The body was found, sparking anger among the locals, but we have restored law and order.”
BJP criticizes TMC
The BJP has condemned the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC), blaming the government for the worsening law and order situation in the state. BJP chief Sukanta Majumdar expressed outrage over the incident, questioning Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s ability to protect women and asking, “How many more Bengali girls will suffer this fate under your misrule?”
