Diwali is one of Hinduism’s most significant festivals, celebrated annually across the country. It takes place during the new moon of the Kartik month, with devotees worshipping Lord Ganesh and Goddess Lakshmi for prosperity. This year, Diwali falls on November 1, a Friday, and families will celebrate by lighting diyas and bursting crackers.

In an interview with Local18, Shubham Tiwari, a priest from Shri Sacha Akhileshwar Mahadev temple in Rishikesh, explained the deeper meaning of Diwali and the proper methods of worshipping the deities to bring peace and prosperity into one’s home.

According to Tiwari, lighting a diya during Diwali has great significance as it symbolizes the removal of darkness and the triumph of light. It is believed to bring positive energy, along with Goddess Lakshmi’s blessings, into the household. Additionally, a lit diya is thought to attract wealth and grains into the home.

The priest emphasized that diyas should be lit at the temple in the house, preferably after sunset during Pradosh Kaal, as this is considered a highly auspicious time. Doing so is said to please Goddess Lakshmi and bring happiness and prosperity to the household.

Vastu Tips for Lighting Diyas

Tiwari also shared Vastu guidelines for placing diyas. For instance, lighting a diya in the kitchen’s southeast corner is believed to promote good health among family members. A diya placed in the living room is thought to fill the house with positive energy and maintain peace. Following these practices will ensure a safe and prosperous Diwali, inviting the blessings of Goddess Lakshmi into the home.
