A television series based on the comic book “El Gato Negro” by Richard Dominguez is in development. The series, titled “El Gato,” will be filmed in both English and Spanish.
Diego Boneta is set to star in the series, with Eric Carrasco adapting the comic book for television. Boneta expressed his excitement about the project, stating, “Sharing ‘El Gato’ with audiences around the world is a dream come true.” He praised Carrasco and the team for creating a character and universe that honors the superhero genre while feeling original.
In the series, Boneta will play the character Frank Guerrero. The story follows Frank as he returns to Mexico after his father’s death and becomes embroiled in his family’s struggle for control of his father’s business empire. Frank discovers that his inheritance, a seemingly worthless piece of land on the border, is actually the hiding place of a famous vigilante known as “El Gato.”
Production is set to begin in Mexico this spring, with Carrasco serving as executive producer and co-showrunner alongside Turi Meyer and Alfredo Septien. The series will be available on Prime Video.
Boneta is known for his roles in films such as “Rock of Ages,” “Terminator: Dark Fate,” and the recent “Father of the Bride” reboot.
