Madgaon Express, which hit the screens on March 22, is expected to open to a decent response at the box office. According to film exhibitor Akshaye Rathi the film belongs to a very specific niche and secured a limited release, which restricts its prospects. He further mentioned that it is likely to earn around Rs 1 crore on the first day despite these limitations.
“Madgaon Express has got a limited release but the reports are positive. The film is essentially a niche comedy. I think it can do around Rs. 1 crore on the release day and then grow,” he told The Daily Guardian.
Madgaon Express features Divyenndu as Dodo, Pratik Gandhi as Pinku, Avinash Tiwary as Ayush, Nora Fatehi as Tasha, Upendra Limaye as Mendoza Bhai, and Chhaya Kadam as Kanchan Kombdi among others. The story revolves around three childhood friends who grow up imagining a ‘trip to Goa.’ Given the subject, the flick has the potential to connect with the younger audience.
It is directed by Kunal Khemu and marks his debut as a filmmaker. Khemu has previously worked as an actor in renowned films such as Malang, Kalank, Simmba, Golmaal Again, Poster Boys, etc. among several other projects. Going by the trailer, Madgaon Express promises a bunch of good laughs. It fits right into the comedies of the golden Bollywood era of the 2000s with witty comments and relatable situations.
The film was released alongside Swatantra Veer Savarkar. However, both films are unlikely to affect each other’s business. In a separate interview with The Daily Guardian, Rathi had said the same and pointed out they cater to different audiences.
