Health influencer Rohan Sehgal recently shared a reel exploring how different foods and drinks affect blood sugar levels. In his experiment, Sehgal consumed pizza with various accompaniments—salad, apple cider vinegar (ACV), and beer. He noted that drinking beer before pizza drastically lowered his blood sugar levels.

“I want to see how the blood sugar increase caused by eating a high-carb meal like a pizza can best be managed. Note: I don’t promote alcohol consumption. It’s only for informative purposes,” Sehgal clarified in his post.

Liver Doc Responds to Viral Video

The video drew sharp criticism from Dr. Cyriac Abby Philips, also known as the Liver Doc, on Instagram. He criticized the idea of using beer to lower blood sugar, calling it misleading and dangerous.

“Alcohol in beer stresses the liver, which produces and releases glucose. When the liver is under stress, its ability to regulate glucose diminishes, causing a drop in sugar levels,” Dr. Philips explained.

He further warned against using alcohol to manage blood sugar, labeling such behavior as reckless and harmful. “Drinking beer or alcohol to reduce sugar levels comes at the cost of your liver’s health. Stop listening to morons,” he said.

What Is Hypoglycemia?

Dr. Shilpa Joshi, Head of Metabolic Nutrition at Fitterfly, explained hypoglycemia in an earlier interview.

“When your blood sugar drops below 60 mg/dL, it is termed hypoglycemia. Episodes of low blood sugar can be life-threatening. Families should watch for signs like fainting and seek immediate medical help,” she advised.
