Cannes Directors’ Fortnight Unveils Lineup for 2024 Festival

The Cannes Directors’ Fortnight, renowned for its innovative and provocative cinema, has unveiled its lineup for the upcoming 2024 festival. This independent section, organized by the French Directors’ Guild, runs concurrently with the main Cannes festival.

This year’s Directors’ Fortnight will open with ‘This Life of Mine,’ the final film by the late French director Sophie Fillières, a poignant drama featuring Agnes Jaoui, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter. The lineup includes four US films, such as ‘Christmas Eve in Miller’s Point’ directed by Tyler Taormina, starring Michael Cera and Elsie Fisher.

‘Good One,’ directed by India Donaldson, explores the journey of a young queer woman on a camping trip, while ‘Eephus’ marks Carson Lund’s debut, depicting the final game of a small-town baseball team. Veteran director Patricia Mazuy will present ‘Visiting Hours,’ starring Isabelle Huppert and Hafsia Herzi.

The Directors’ Fortnight was established in 1969 by the French Directors’ Guild, arising from the disruptions that led to the closure of the Cannes Film Festival in 1968. It has since been a platform for innovative and daring filmmaking. For the first time, the Directors’ Fortnight will introduce an audience award named after the late Belgian director Chantal Akerman.

The 2024 edition will conclude with Jean-Christophe Meurisse’s dark comedy ‘Plastic Guns.’ Running from May 15 to May 25, the 2024 Directors’ Fortnight will showcase a diverse selection of feature films, special screenings, and short films.
