Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, Manoj Sinha, declared on Tuesday that the school curriculum in the region will incorporate the life struggles of local heroes. Additionally, he announced the establishment of a chair in memory of General Zorawar Singh at Jammu University, aiming to inspire students and researchers to contribute to the vision of a strong and prosperous J&K, as envisioned by the legendary military figure.
The announcement came during an event organized by the General Zorawar Singh Memorial Educational and Charitable Trust to commemorate the ‘martyrdom’ day of General Zorawar Singh. Lieutenant Governor Sinha unveiled the bust of General Zorawar Singh outside the General Zorawar Singh Auditorium in Jammu University.
Highlighting the significance of General Zorawar Singh, the LG praised his embodiment of India’s strength and self-confidence. Sinha emphasized that General Zorawar Singh’s valour, discipline, and dedication to duty serve as a testament to the belief that nothing is impossible for the brave, and infinite possibilities open up for the warrior. “He is the icon for generations, evoking strong feelings of love, reverence, and sacrifice for the motherland. It is our collective endeavor to fully recognize his contribution and significance in India’s history,” stated the Lieutenant Governor.
Sinha urged historians and writers to focus on General Zorawar Singh’s historic accomplishments, including his military campaigns in Ladakh, Baltistan, Tibet, and his substantial contribution to the expansion of the Dogra Empire under Maharaja Gulab Singh ji.
During another event organized by the ex-servicemen league at Gen Zorwar Chowk, the Lieutenant Governor reiterated the commitment to teach the history of great personalities like General Zorawar Singh, Brigadier Rajinder Singh, and Maqbool Sherwani in schools.
