The Supreme Court in the case Andhra Pradesh Amateur Wrestling Association v. Haryana Wrestling Association And Ors observed and has refused to interfere with the order of the Punjab and Haryana High Court wherein the court stayed the elections of the Wrestling Federation of India, WFI on August 29, 2023.
The bench comprising of Justice Abhay S Oka and Justice Pankaj Mithal in the case observed wherein the petition is moved by the Andhra Pradesh Amateur Wrestling Association against the order passed by the High Court on August 11, 2023.
The bench in the case observed and had asked the petitioner to approach the High Court wherein seeking the vacation of the interim order instead of approaching the Supreme Court.
Further, the High Court passed the order in the petition moved by the Haryana Wrestling Association objecting to the inclusion of Haryana Amateur Wrestling Association in the electoral college for the WFI elections.
Therefore, it has been contended by the HWA before the court that the HAWA is not fully affiliated to the State Olympic Association, which is a precondition to vote in the WFI elections
The High Court bench comprising of Justice Vinod S Bharadwaj in the case observed and has passed the interim order a day ahead of the date of the scheduled elections and posted the matter for further hearing on August 28, 2023.
Accordingly, the High Court extended the interim stay till September 25, 2023.
