Supreme Court: Plea Disposed Of Film Makers Against Case Over Poster With Deity’s Picture On Sanitary Pad

The Supreme Court in the case Nakshatra 27 Media Pvt Ltd and others vs Union of India and others observed and has disposed of a writ plea filed by the makers of the film “Masoom Sawal”, wherein seeking clubbing of the complaints which are filed over its poster which showed a deity on a sanitary pad.
In the present case, the Nakshatra 27 Media Pvt Ltd, Santhosh Upadhyay and Ranjana Upadhyay, who being the producers and the directors of the movie respectively had approached the Court, it has also been stated that multiple complaints have been lodged against them wherein it is alleged that religious sentiments are hurt.
It has also been informed to the Court by the UP Government that only one FIR was being registered against the petitioners in which chargesheet was being filed after completing of the investigation. Therefore, no formal FIRs have been lodged on
any other complaints.
The court while considering the facts and circumstances of the case observed that only one FIR was being registered, which has resulted in a chargesheet and that the petitioner sought relief which is misconceived as “no direction can be issued for clubbing of non-existent FIRs.”
The bench comprising of Justice Surya Kant and Justice JK Maheshwari in the case observed and has disposed of the plea granting liberty to the petitioners to avail appropriate remedies in accordance with law before the appropriate forum.
