He Punjab And Haryana High Court in the case Satinder Kaur v. State of Punjab observed and has issued the notice to the Punjab government on the plea moved by female advocates wherein seeking police protection in light of alleged death threats she received from some unknown persons after she took up ‘some controversial cases’.
The bench headed by Justice Vinod S. Bhardwaj in the case observed and has issued the notice to the State authorities.
The counsel, Satinder Kaur, an advocate practising in the High Court stated that she has been receiving repetitive threats from unknown persons on her phone since August 8, 2023.
Therefore, the callers allegedly stated that she has done enough cases against them and they will not let her practice. It has also been alleged by them they threatened to kill her and her family. Further, the Kaur stated that the treats might be connected with some controversial cases that she is contesting; for instance, she is representing farmers whose lands are being eroded by illegal mining and PIL moved for drug-de addiction and rehabilitation.
Accordingly, the court listed the matter to be heard for further consideration on October 20, 2023.
The counsel, Senior Advocate Dr Anmol Ratan Siddhu appeared for the petitioner.
