CHANDIGARH: A 32-year-old man from Manimajra was arrested by the Chandigarh Cyber Crime Police for allegedly uploading and sharing child sexual exploitation material on the internet. The arrest follows a cyber tip-off and detailed digital investigations that linked the accused to the crime.

According to police, the accused, identified as Joginder, was traced and taken into custody after officials received information through the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal. The portal had flagged accounts suspected of uploading and circulating illegal content involving minors. Investigators said the compliant revealed that the content had been widely shared across social media and other online platforms, putting numerous children at risk.

The cybercrime unit conducted a thorough technical investigation, including tracing the IP address, analysing call records, and reviewing digital evidence from multiple online sources. These efforts helped establish Joginder’s connection to the content and led to a swift arrest at his residence in Manimajra.

During the raid, police recovered multiple electronic devices, including mobile phones and storage media, allegedly used in the commission of the crime. These devices have been seized and sent for forensic examination to gather further evidence. Police officials emphasised that technical support from the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C) was instrumental in identifying the accused and analysing digital footprints quickly.

A case has been registered under Section 67-B of the Information Technology Act, 2000, which criminalises the publication and transmission of sexually explicit material involving children. The Chandigarh Cyber Police have assured the public that stringent action will be taken against digital offences, particularly those exploiting minors.

Authorities also appealed to citizens to report any suspicious online activity through official channels, such as the National Cyber Crime Portal or local police stations. “Public cooperation is critical in preventing cybercrimes against children. We urge everyone to remain vigilant and report any unlawful content immediately,” said a senior police officer.

The case highlights the growing importance of cyber vigilance and law enforcement coordination in tackling crimes targeting children online. Chandigarh Police have assured that investigations are ongoing and the accused will face strict legal action under the provisions of the IT Act.
