Kerala High Court To Conduct Four-Day Digital Accessibility Training Programme For The Visually Challenged Court Staff

The Kerala High Court in the bid to make the digital infrastructure of the Indian judicial system which is being accessible to persons with disabilities, as envisaged by the e-Committee of the Supreme Court.
The bench of CJI D.Y. Chandrachud’s provided the vision of digital accessibility training to differently abled judges and court staff, thus, the Kerala High Court is set to provide a four-day ‘Digital Accessibility Training’ to visually challenged court staff.
The said measure has been undertaken by the Kerala High Court while following the statement of Chief Justice Chandrachud’s exhorting all High Courts to make their digital infrastructure accessible to persons with disabilities in conformity with the constitutional and statutory entitlements of people with disabilities.
Therefore, the four day training programme shall be held from January 15th – January 18th, 2024, in the I.T. Training hall, at the old High Court building, in two batches.
However, the said event shall be inaugurated by Kerala High Court Chief Justice Ashish Jitendra Desai on January 15, 2024 at 9:30 A.M. at the High Court.
The Justice A. Muhamed Mustaque, Chairman of the computerisation committee also attended the event.
The Supreme Court also noted that the E-committee’s efforts towards digital accessibility has made all High Court websites, the websites of the E-committee and e-Courts, and the judgement search portal being accessible to persons with disabilities.
Therefore, the 4 day training programme is expected to further enhance the same by providing the hands-on training wherein it covered various assistive technologies such as the accessible reading of court documents with a screen reader and instant reading device; accessible documentation and note-making in a digital work environment; techniques and tools for scan and creating Digital Accessible format; using Internet and judgement searching with screen readers; smartphone-based assistive technologies, the orientation of keyboard and input in regional languages, Artificial intelligence tools and techniques for visually impaired; digital office handling and usages, and so on.
Further, the said programme is being conducted under the aegis of the Supreme Court e-Committee which is coordinated by Ms R Arulmozhiselvi, Member, HR, the I.T. Directorate of High court of Kerala and Kerala Judicial Academy.
The Hands-on training for the participants shall be provided by GM Sreedhar and Anushiya. A, Computer Faculty, NIEPVD -RC, Chennai.
