Justice Ashish Jitendra Desai took oath as the Chief Justice of the Kerala High Court.
The oath was administered by Kerala Governor Arif Mohammed Khan of office to the new Chief Justice, at a ceremony which is held at Raj Bhavan.
Presently, the Chief Justice Desai is the 38th Chief Justice of the Kerala High Court. Therefore, Justice Desai was a Judge of the Gujarat High Court and he being the senior-most Judge of Gujarat High Court, and had been performing the duties of the office of Chief Justice of that High Court, which being prior to the elevation as Chief Justice of Kerala High Court.
The Supreme Court Collegium had recommended for the appointment of Chief Justice of the Kerala High Court on 06.06.2023, while following the elevation of the previous Chief Justice SV Bhatt to the Supreme Court. The Centre notified the appointment of Justice Ashish Jitendra Desai on 19.07.2023.
