New Delhi: The Supreme Court today sought clarity on the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) after elections, following a petition requesting that data from the machines not be erased even after the counting process is completed.

A bench led by Chief Justice of India Sanjeev Khanna directed that, for now, no data should be deleted from EVMs, nor should any new data be reloaded.

The Election Commission has been asked to provide details on the procedure for burning EVM memory and microcontrollers post-election.
