Delhi High Court: Directed Muslim Women Accused Of Forced Religion Conversion To Delete Social Media Posts Of Woman Within 48 Hours

The Delhi High Court in the case Azmat Ali Khan v. Union of India & Ors observed and has directed a Muslim man, who being accused of forcefully converting a woman to Islam in order to delete his social media posts regarding woman within 48 hours, including images and comments. The bench headed by Justice Prathiba M Singh in the case observed and has personally interacted with the women in chambers who told court that the man had posted her videos on various social media platforms.

In the present case, the court was hearing the plea moved by one Azmat Ali Khan wherein seeking removal of news item items and videos published on online platforms in respect of an FIR lodged against him on 19.04.2023 by the Delhi-based woman accusing him of forced religious conversion.

It has also been directed by the court that certain news channels including Sudarshan News and social media platforms like YouTube, Google and Twitter to block links of news reports accusing Khan of forcefully wherein it converted the woman to Islam. Therefore, the Social media platforms like Google And Twitter apprised the court that they have duly complied with the takedown order. It has also been asked by the bench of Justice Singh that the counsel appearing for Khan to advise his client to take the order of the court seriously and to also remove the social media posts.

It ahs also bene informed by the Khan’s sister that the women and Khan were in a relationship for a long time and she threatened to level allegations of religious conversion only after he wanted to end the relationship. It has also been informed by the Khan that the allegations against him are under investigation by Delhi Police and circulation of the videos is posing great threat to the independent probe as well as his safety and security.
