The CBI Special court, Ernakulam, in the case Inspector of Police, CBI v. Dinesh K observed and has sentenced an Income Tax Department officer to rigorous imprisonment for the period of 4.5 years and fine of Rs. 50,000/- for taking bribe from a doctor.
The said order was passed by the Additional Special Sessions Judge (SPE/CBI)-III, Ernakulam, KK Balakrishnan.
It being the case of the prosecution against the accused Income Tax official, KK Dinesh, was that he had obtained a bribe for an amount of Rs. 10 Lakhs from a doctor.
It has been alleged before the court that Dinesh had threatened the doctor to give him the bribe, lest the latter incur a liability of crores of rupees.
In the present case, the CBI arrested the accused on 31.03.2017 and was in remand until April 18, 2023.
Accordingly, the CBI court find him guilty of the offences as stated under section 7 and section 13(2) reading with Section 13(1)(d) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988.
