The Supreme Court in the case Saket Suhas Gokhale v. State of Gujarat observed and has adjourned the bail hearing of Trinamool Congress spokesperson Saket Gokhale in the case related to the allegation of misappropriation of funds being raised through a crowdfunding account.
The division bench comprising of Justice BR Gavai and Justice Vikram Nath in the case observed and has informed by the Solicitor-General Tushar Mehta that the State would be filing of the response of them to Gokhale’s petition in the coming days.
In the present case, the 34-year-old activist-turned-politician was being arrested on December 30 last year by Ahmedabad police’s cybercrime branch from Delhi.
The bench headed by Justice Samir Dave of the Gujarat High Court declined the request made by Gokhale’s bail in January.
Further, the judge while denying the bail observed that this being a prima facie case that the amounts collected in the name of welfare had been used by the accused for the personal benefits of him.
However, it has been claimed by the Gokhale that he had been arrested on the basis of a spurious complaint for his now-deleted tweet, wherein it is alleged that the visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s to Gujarat after the collapse of Morbi bridge as it had set back the public exchequer by an amount of Rs 30 crore.
Lately, the Supreme Court issued notice in the challenge made by Gokhale’s against the denial of bail by the bench of single-judge of the Gujarat High Court.
