Leh town is trying to come to terms with the lockdown restrictions as the union territory of Ladakh had gotten engulfed in the second wave of the pandemic, forcing the authorities to impose strict restrictions in the region.
However, from Monday, the authorities have decided to go for phased unlocking as the Ladakh region is waiting for the tourism trickle to start some activities for the survival of large numbers of people in the area being tourism-dependent.
Leh bore the brunt of the second wave of the pandemic with about 20 thousand cases, while the virus taking about 200 lives in the region.
Leh District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) Chairman, Shrikant Suse, told the media that they have decided to relax the restrictions from June 7 till June 14.
However, he said that public transport, private offices, salons, barbershops, beauty parlors, spas, and gyms would continue to remain closed till further orders.
Keeping an eye on the developmental projects and tourism, the authorities in Leh have said that they will allow the construction workers to reside at workplaces while the hotels and restaurants would be also allowed to open but with the rider of 30% of the capacity.
Similarly in the Union Territory of Ladakh, the vehicular movement would be allowed and at the beginning, the authorities will allow an odd/even system with 50% seating capacity. Similar relaxation in the covid curfew has been announced by the Kargil administration and it will remain in force till June 14 like in the Leh district.
Kargil district is not witnessing any rise in the covid-19 cases as the majority of the Covid positive cases during the second wave of the pandemic were reported from Leh district.
