The tragic fire in Kuwait that claimed the lives of over 40 people, including many Indians, occurred in a building leased by KG Abraham, as reported by News Nine and the Times of India on Thursday. The building served as accommodation for employees of NBTC group, a prominent construction company in Kuwait, where Abraham holds the roles of partner and managing director.

KG Abraham, also known as KGA, is the 69-year-old founder and chairman of KGA Group, which specializes in engineering goods manufacturing and exporting. Beyond business, he is renowned for owning Crowne Plaza, a prestigious five-star hotel in Kochi, and for his role as the producer of the popular Malayalam film ‘Aadujeevitham – The Goat Life’.

The fire incident at his property in Kuwait’s Mangaf area gained widespread attention on Wednesday. As of Thursday, the death toll had risen to 49, with 41 of the deceased being Indian nationals, while more than 50 others were hospitalized.

Living in Kuwait for over three decades, Abraham is deeply entrenched in both the NBTC Group and the KGA Group based in Kerala. He had notably spearheaded relief efforts during the devastating floods in Kerala in 2018 and 2019. Recently, Abraham voiced criticism against the Pinarayi Vijayan-led LDF government in Kerala following allegations of misappropriation from the CM’s Distress Relief Fund.

In addition to his business and philanthropic endeavors, Abraham ventured into film production with ‘The Goat Life’, featuring popular actor Prithviraj Sukumaran.

Meanwhile, Emir Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah has called for a thorough investigation into the tragic fire incident in Kuwait. He emphasized the need to hold accountable those responsible for the loss of lives.
