The General Secretary of the All India Congress Committee, former Union Minister, and MP from the Sirsa Lok Sabha constituency, Kumari Selja, criticized the government for the deteriorating condition of cities in Haryana. She stated that although announcements were made to transform cities into Smart Cities and make them like Paris, today the cities have reached a state of hell. She claimed that while the state government remains idle, there are three ministers from the state at the center, yet Haryana is lamenting its plight. She highlighted the shortcomings of the BJP government both inside and outside the Lok Sabha.

In a statement released to the media, Kumari Selja said that the state government has a great fondness for renaming things, but the situation remains unchanged. She pointed out that although Faridabad is called a Smart City, piles of garbage are seen everywhere. The local MP, who is also a minister at the center, does not address the plight of his own city. The same situation applies to Ambala; she questioned what kind of Smart City it is. She also commented on the condition of Gurugram, once called the Millennium City, noting that even the local minister has lamented its poor condition in an interview. The public is frustrated and troubled by the lack of facilities.

She said that the former Chief Minister of the state, now a minister at the center, sees everything but remains silent. They have forgotten Swachh Bharat; Gandhi’s spectacles, which were hung on walls everywhere under Swachh Bharat, have disappeared, perhaps thrown into the garbage. She questioned what happened to the announcements made by the Railway Ministry in 2016 regarding Gurugram and Faridabad, and the status of the Ballabgarh metro. She also asked about the international airport in Hisar, which was supposed to start in 2021. Additionally, she inquired about the nuclear plant in the village of Gorakhpur in Fatehabad district, where the then Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh laid the foundation stone. She demanded to know the status of the project and when power production would begin, asserting that the government has no answers.

Kumari Selja said that in the Lok Sabha elections, the youth, women, farmers, and Agniveers have already shown a mirror to the BJP. If the government has any concern for the people, it should implement MSP guarantees, provide employment to the youth, abolish the Agniveer recruitment, and ensure women’s safety. Otherwise, she warned, the public will deliver a worse verdict in the assembly elections than in the Lok Sabha.
