Four junior doctors were called in for questioning by the Kolkata police at their Lalbazar headquarters on Tuesday, August 13, 2024. This questioning is related to the murder and rape of a second-year postgraduate student at a government hospital in Kolkata, which occurred last week.

?\been summoned purely for information. “Four junior doctors who had dinner with her have been summoned again,” the sources stated.

In addition to the junior doctors, the police also summoned the Head of Department, Assistant Superintendent, both male and female nurses, Group-D staff, and security personnel from the hospital for questioning. The victim, a postgraduate trainee doctor, was discovered raped and murdered at the R.G. Kar Medical College and Hospital on August 9. This horrific incident has led to widespread outrage and protests.

Previously, three junior doctors and one house staff member who were on duty the night of the incident had been summoned by the Kolkata police. The ongoing investigation has prompted doctors and students from various hospitals across the country to stage an indefinite strike, demanding justice for the victim.

On August 12, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee urged the police to expedite the arrests. She also warned that if the police fail to resolve the case promptly, it would be referred to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
