In its last leg of the ongoing Khedan Watan Punjab Diyan-2023, a unique and rare event show jumping’ competition was organised at Forest Hill Resorts, Karoran in Mohali.
In this equestrian event, riders guided their horses through a timed course filled with a series of colourful fences and obstacles. The goal was to complete the course with as few penalties as possible, incurred for knocking down fences or exceeding the time limit. It’s a test of both horse and rider’s agility, precision, and teamwork.
The participating teams included PPS Nabha, YPS Patiala, The Ranch Chandigarh,
Budha Dal Public School Patiala, Majestic Horse Riding Academy, The Stables Chandigarh, PAP Jalandhar and PAP Chandigarh.
District Planning Committee Chairperson Prabhjot Kaur while addressing the gathering as chief guest of the event said that gone are the days when the Punjab Youth was considered lagging behind the sports competition. The platforms and facilities provided by the Bhagwant Singh Mann Government to boost the games and sports culture by introducing a new sports policy have changed the sports scenario in the state now. The medal tally of the Nation includes 20 individual or collective events having the presence of 32 Punjab State players in the recently held Asian Games. She said that the Horse Rising Competition would prove another feather to the cap of Khedan Watan Punjab Diyan. She said that the sports competition would definitely inculcate a sense of leading Punjab across the world in the sports arena among the Punjab Youth thereby transforming the state into Rangla Punjab as per the dreams of Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann.
Col B S Sandhu, CMD, Forest Hill Resorts while appreciating the sports competition initiated by the Punjab Government, said that he will always be happy to offer the sites of Forest Hills Resorts for organising such rare competitions.
Deepinder Singh, an alumnus of PPS Nabha said that Horse riding in Punjab is becoming more popular and changing with the times. People are coming to Punjab to ride horses and enjoy the beautiful landscapes. There are more horse-riding events and competitions, and horses are being taken care of better. Riding schools are teaching people how to ride, and new technology is making horse riding more fun and accessible. So, horse riding in Punjab is becoming a mix of old traditions and new ways, making it exciting for everyone. He expressed gratitude to the Punjab Government for including the Horse Riding as a sports competition in Khedan Watan Punjab Diyan.
District Sports Officer Gurdeep Kaur while giving details of the first-day events’ results said that in Show Jumping Under 14, 1st Rank bagged by Jujharveer Singh Chahal, 2nd Rank by Ekamjeet Singh, 3rd Rank by Sanmarveer Singh and 4th Rank by Rudraksh Singh Jangra.
Dressage- Under 17, 1st rank bagged by Hirdayjeet Singh, 2nd Rank by Hirdayjeet Singh, 3rd Rank by Bikrumveer Singh, 4th Rank by Fatehjeet Singh, 5th rank by Kanwarjaideep Singh, 6th rank by Harshivraj Singh and 7th rank byJashanjot Singh.
Dressage-Under 21, 1st rank got by Azadnoor Singh, 2nd Rank by Kanwar Gulrusselpreet, 3rd Rank by Kanwar Gulrusselpreet, 4th Rank by Piyush Gill and 5th rank by Harjagh Singh.
