The Kerala High Court in the case P.G. Manu v. State of Kerala observed and has directed in-camera proceedings to be held for hearing the case against former Senior Government Pleader P.G. Manu, who in the case is presently facing allegations of sexual assault of a female client in the guise of providing legal assistance for her.
The bench headed by Justice Gopinath P in the case observed, based on the submissions of the Additional Director General of Prosecutions, it is better that hearing of case is held in camera.
The court while considering the above request stated that the proceedings will be held on 4 PM on December 14, 2023 in camera.
The court in the case was informed that certain facts have to be disclosed during the hearing which has to be recorded in camera for the benefit of the victim.
The court observed that Manu resigned from his post as Senior Government Pleader.
It has orally been noted by the court that no special considerations would be given to the petitioner because he is a lawyer.
In the present case, the allegation made before the court was that the petitioner had established ‘unholy relationship’ under the guise of taking instructions and raped the victim at her house and his office.
Therefore, the petitioner had denied all the allegations and submitted that the registration of the case was a ‘calculated attempt’ from the part of his professional rivalries after colluding with the victim.
Accordingly, the court listed the matter for further consideration on December 14, 2023.
The counsel, Advocates C.P. Udayabhanu, Navaneeth N. Nath, Rassal Janardhanan A., Abhishek M. Kunnathu, Boban Palat, P.U. Pratheesh Kumar, P.R. Ajay, and K.U. Swapnil moved the plea.
