The American comedian and actress, Kathy Griffin became the latest subject of twitter account suspension.
As per the fox news reports, Griffin changed her display name to ‘Musk’ following which her account was banned from the micro blogging site. In spite of her account showing her display name as her own @kathygriffin, Twitter CEO Elon Musk rolled out that handles engaged in ‘impersonation’ without clearly specifying “parody” will be suspended permanently.
Sharing the tweet, Elon Musk wrote, “BREAKING: @kathygriffin has been permanently suspended from Twitter for impersonating. Actually, she was suspended for impersonating a comedian. Going forward, any Twitter handles engaging in impersonation without clearly specifying “parody” will be permanently suspended,”
Musk also mentioned that unlike the previous times, people won’t be warned before their account suspension since widespread verification is being released. “Previously, we issued a warning before the suspension, but now that we are rolling out widespread verification, there will be no warning. This will be clearly identified as a condition for signing up to Twitter Blue. Any name change at all will cause temporary loss of verified checkmark”, he tweeted.
In addition to this Musk while confirming the reports said that the company now will be charging USD 8 a month as a part of twitter’s subscription with priority in replies, mentions, and searches.
“Twitter’s current lords and peasants system for who has or doesn’t have a blue checkmark is bullshit. Power to the people! Blue for USD 8/month,” he further added.
However Musk’s decision to rollout fee for blue tick received widespread dissent including the numerous advertisers backing out and in retaliation Elon Musk threatened to name shame them if they chose to ditch twitter. Not to mention Musk has been in the radar of criticism ever since he sacked most of the company’s employees.
