In a swift and calculated operation, the Kathua Police averted a potential disaster by recovering and safely dismantling two Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) found concealed in the Shamshan Ghat area of Sherpur. The operation, conducted during the early morning hours by the Special Operations Group (SOG) of District Police Kathua along the Bein Nalla, demonstrated the proactive measures taken by the authorities to ensure public safety.
During the search operation, two suspicious objects packed in polythene were discovered hidden in bushes near Shamshan Ghat. Recognizing the gravity of the situation, the Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) was immediately summoned to inspect the objects. Upon examination, both items were confirmed to be Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs).
Each IED, contained within a plastic bottle, was equipped with components including an Electric Detonator, a 9V battery sourced from Malaysia, a circuit, screws serving as splinters, and explosive material. Additionally, the plastic containers housing the IEDs were coated with Plaster of Paris.
The approximate weight of one IED was determined to be 1.5 kg, while the other weighed 01 kg. Acknowledging the imminent danger, the police team swiftly and skillfully dismantled both IEDs on the spot, preventing any potential harm to the public or property. The devices were then taken into possession following a controlled detonation.
A case has been registered at the concerned Police Station, and a thorough investigation is underway to apprehend those responsible for planting the IEDs. The successful operation underscores the vigilance and efficiency of the Kathua Police in ensuring the safety and security of the region.
