The alleged Chinese visa matter was brought before the Enforcement Directorate on Saturday, during which Congress MP Karti Chidambaram referred to it as “dead, dormant, and closed.” It is said that Karti Chidambaram was paid Rs 50 lakh to shadily arrange the visas of 263 Chinese nationals so they could finish a power project in Punjab.
Before going before the ED, Chidambaram spoke with reporters and mentioned that this was his 20th time appearing before the agency, calling it a “routine affair.”
“I’ve been to the ED office 20 times. It’s turning into a daily occurrence. I respond to their inquiries in the same way that they do. The case is closed, dead, and inactive. The Congress lawmaker told the sources, “The CBI has essentially closed this matter, but they (ED) want to reopen it and question me in connection with it.”
He continued by saying that his attorneys had filed a 100-page response to the matter.
“My solicitors have already provided them with a thorough response that is 100 pages long. I’ll say it again. They seem to have missed me this Christmas season, which is why they called me back. “We’re here to wish the ED a Merry Christmas,” Karti remarked.
In May of last year, the central agency reportedly reported a Chinese visa scam and launched a money laundering case. “The ED has filed a case under the criminal sections of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act, taking cognisance of a recent First Information Report registered by the CBI in the case,” a source had previously stated.
