Starting Saturday, traffic in Noida and Ghaziabad is expected to face significant disruptions as restrictions and diversions are put in place for the ongoing Kanwar Yatra. These measures will be in effect until the evening of August 5.

In Noida, two lanes at the Kalindi Kunj border, extending from the Okhla barrage to the bird sanctuary, have been closed to accommodate the large influx of pilgrims. Meanwhile, in Ghaziabad, private cars and light goods vehicles heading towards Meerut will be rerouted from the Delhi-Meerut Expressway (DME) to NH-9 and Hapur. Heavy vehicles have been barred from the DME since July 22.

The closure of lanes in Okhla is anticipated to create traffic congestion on the remaining two lanes leading to Delhi, potentially causing long delays during peak hours. The 4km stretch connecting Mayur Vihar and Kalindi Kunj, which passes a temple frequently visited by pilgrims on their journey from Haridwar, will particularly be affected.
