Three months after a horrific hit-and-run case in Delhi’s Kanjhawala neighbourhood resulted in the death of a 20-year-old woman, the Delhi Police filed an 800-page chargesheet against seven accused, charging them with murder.

“On the basis of the material and evidence collected during the investigation, to the best of capabilities, sufficient material has come on record to prosecute the accused,” the police said.

Initially, the FIR was registered under sections 120B, 304, 279, and 201 of the IPC, as well as other sections. In connection with the case, seven people were arrested, two of whom were later granted bail.

On January 1, Manoj Mittal, Deepak Khanna, Amit Khanna, Krishan, and Mithun were arrested. Following interrogation, they were placed in judicial custody. Later, the other two accused, Ashutosh and Ankush were apprehended.

The investigating officer will present the chargesheet to Sanya Dalal, the metropolitan magistrate. The victim was dragged 13 kilometres under a car on the Shani Bazar Road in a shocking incident. The accused drove around in the car for two hours, according to Delhi police, who sought the accused’s remand.

CCTV footage and Call Detail Record (CDR) data were gathered during the investigation could be crucial evidence disclosed in the chargesheet. The accused, Deepak, was also planted by the other accused in the case, according to Delhi police.

Earlier, during the hearing Anjali’s mother wasn’t seen in the court as she didn’t come to the court due to health issue. However, the deceased’s maternal uncle had been interviewed by the media where he demanded “justice.” The Court will take the cognizance of the chargesheet on 13 April.
