Kamiya Jani, anchor of Curly Tales, is receiving significant backlash after a clip from her recent interview with Bollywood actress Janhvi Kapoor went viral. During the interview, which took place at Kapoor’s Mumbai home, Jani expressed surprise at the combination of idli and chicken curry, leading to widespread criticism on social media.

In the video, Kapoor introduces the meal spread, which includes dosa, idli, chicken curry, paneer bhurji, and moong dal chilla. When Kapoor suggests trying the idli with chicken curry, Jani’s reaction is one of astonishment.

Wait. What? Chicken curry with idli?” Jani asks, visibly surprised. Kapoor reassures her that it’s a family favorite, specifically mentioning that it’s Boney Kapoor’s special dish. Despite Jani’s initial skepticism, she eventually tries the combination and even approves it, but still refers to it as a “weird combination.”

The reaction from viewers was swift. Many criticized Jani for her lack of knowledge about a popular South Indian dish. “Born in India, introduces herself as a travel influencer and acts like a white person,” wrote one user on X, sharing the clip.

Others highlighted the dish’s popularity in Tamil Nadu and other South Indian states. “How is idli and chicken curry a weird combination? Has she ever visited Tamil Nadu?” questioned another user. “Try idli or dosa with mutton; it’s a blissful combination,” added Dr. Ganesh.

Some defended Jani, arguing that not everyone is familiar with regional dishes. “I have been to all South states and never heard of idli with chicken curry,” said one defender.

Kamiya Jani, who received the National Digital Creators Award in March for Best Travel Creator, has been a prominent figure in digital content creation. Despite the criticism, many are advocating for a broader understanding of regional cuisines and cultural diversity.
