The Kallakurichi hooch tragedy in Tamil Nadu has led to the death of nearly 60 people and 80 still in hospital undergoing treatment. On Monday, Tamil Nadu BJP President K Annamalai along with senior BJP leaders from the state met Governor RN Ravi. They handed over a letter demanding the resignation of DMK Minister S Muthuswamy, who is in charge of prohibition and excise, and sought a CBI enquiry as well.
After meeting the Tamil Nadu Governor, Annamalai posted on social media, “Along with senior leaders of @BJP4TamilNadu today, we met the Honourable Governor of TN, Thiru RN Ravi avl, and handed over the representation seeking the resignation of the Prohibition Minister whose complacency led to the death of over 60 people in Kallakurichi due to illicit liquor and the case be transferred to the CBI for enquiry.”
Annamalai said, “Due to this carelessness of the DMK government, we have lost 60 lives to illicit arrack in Kallakurichi. Today, we met Governor RN Ravi seeking a CBI enquiry to probe who is behind the sale of illicit arrack.”
He also accused the ruling DMK of “not being bothered” about the issue of increased availability of ganja and illicit arrack in the last three years and “this has led to a big suspicion.”
BJP leader Tamilisai Soundararajan spoke to the media after the meeting and alleged that the Tamil Nadu government was protecting those who were responsible for this tragedy.
She also said that Chief Minister MK Stalin and Excise Minister S Muthusamy did not bother to visit Kallakurichi to meet the victims. Tamilisai Soundararajan stated, “S Muthusamy should take moral responsibility for the incident and should resign.
Our demand is to forward this illicit liquor case to the CBI for further investigation.”
