She is a talented Malayalam actor who has many renowned Indian films to her name. In the recently released Kadak Singh on ZEE5, actor Parvathy Thiruvothu delivered a memorable performance along with stalwarts like Pankaj Tripathi. In an exclusive chat with TDG, she talks about the film and more.
TDG: Kadak Singh has an ensemble of national award winners, including you. Tell us about your experience working with Tony Da, Jaya, and Pankaj Tripathi. Tell us about your experience.
Tony Da has assembled an extraordinary team, and their presence is indispensable.
We need these wonderful individuals who have been honoured with national awards—the highest honours in the country. They aren’t just exceptional artists, they’re outstanding human beings. They do not let success, in the most common way that it’s thought about, get into their heads because they know that the source of true art, is in your understanding that success is not what defines you. It’s your everyday discipline and your commitment to be the best version of yourself as a human and as an artist. So, I see these things, even theoretically, are very bookish as well. When we say things like this, we think there is nobody who can be the personification of all these values—perfectionism and this. But I did work with Tony Da, Jaya, and Pankaj Ji, who are living examples of them trying to do their best in all these qualities, and it was extremely inspiring
TDG: There are also some relatively newcomers in the film: Sanjana Sanghi, Paresh Pahuja, and Varun Buddhadev.
After watching the movie, I was deeply moved by the sincere performances delivered by Sanjana, Paresh, and Varun. Having the pleasure of watching Paresh and Sanjana’s performances live was truly special. Although I didn’t get to see Varun live, his on-screen brilliance left a lasting impression on me. Sanjana and Paresh captivated me with their presence. They were so honest on set; they have such pure hearts and the ambition to stay inspired, watching and learning, and just wearing their hearts on their sleeves and being part of the whole thing, it was very reassuring to see this. There is so much noise when it comes to acting, especially when I started off as an actor. There was no Instagram, no social media and navigating through all of that and staying steadfast in your artistic direction is no small achievement. Sanjana and Paresh have done an incredible job in maintaining that unwavering commitment. Witnessing their dedication is not only inspiring but also incredibly reassuring. They’ve managed to deliver performances of utmost honesty that truly blew me away, and I believe they’ve done a fantastic job.
TDG: Any challenges while shooting for Kadak Singh? Any memorable scenes?
This might sound incredibly utopian, and I’m fully aware of that, but truthfully, there were no challenges—only an array of excitement and constant problem-solving. Every aspect of the project felt like an opportunity for creative exploration. I was initially asked for a good 15 days, and yet, everything was seamlessly wrapped up in just 9 days.
If anything posed a challenge, it was having to bid farewell to the set and the amazing team. Every aspect of the film, from the impeccable care taken by the production team to the exceptional collaboration with Wiz Production—undoubtedly the most gracious producers I’ve encountered in my career—down to our interactions with the direction department, and the costume team exuded an atmosphere of mutual respect.
