Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) organised a special programme, ‘Udaan,’ to felicitate its proud alumna, Ms Esha, who was honored with the European Space Agency (ESA) Award, making her the first Indian woman under the age of thirty. The ceremony took place on Wednesday.
After completing her schooling at JSSS, Esha earned her Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech) from the Department of Mechanical Engineering at JMI in 2013.
ESA presented her with the Space Sustainability Award 2021 in the ‘Special Mission of Jury’ category at the European Interparliamentary Space Conference (EISC). The award ceremony was held at the French Parliament. This accolade recognizes young scientists who promote the sustainable use of space and provides a platform for them to present their ideas.
Currently, Esha works as a Research Associate in the Department of Component Development at Leibniz Institute of Composite Materials GmbH, Germany. After completing her B.Tech at JMI, she provided consulting services for one and a half years before pursuing a master’s degree in aerospace from Nying Technological University and Technical University Munich in Singapore. Her father, Dr. Anil Kumar, is an Associate Professor in the Department of Hindi at JMI. During the welcome address, Dr Muhammad Arshad Khan, the principal of JSSS, congratulated Esha on her outstanding achievement. He expressed hope that her success would motivate other university students to dream big and work hard to achieve their goals. Dr. Khan also highlighted the aims and objectives of ‘Udaan,’ a unique program designed to felicitate proud alumni of the school.
Irfan Khan, the founder of IDI Design Private Limited and an alumnus of Jamia Senior Secondary School, served as the Chief Guest of the program. In his address, he encouraged students to work hard to uncover their hidden talents and choose their field of interest as a career.
