J&K women police constables charged with Chit Fund scam

The Economic Offences Wing, Crime Branch Jammu has submitted a comprehensive 382-page charge sheet against two Women Police Constables, W/SgCt. Nirmal Kour Saini and W/Sg.Ct.Arti Sharma, for their alleged involvement in a chit fund fraud amounting to Rs 1,87,64,000.00. The charge sheet, presented in the Hon’ble Court, accuses the constables of criminal conspiracy and cheating multiple complainants, including co-employees of IRP 15th Battalion.
The case originated from written complaints filed by Women Constables of IRP 15th Battalion, alleging that W/SgCt.Nirmal Kaur had fraudulently taken Rs. 1.00 Lakh each from them, promising a monthly interest of Rs. 5000 on the invested money. However, neither the promised interest nor the principal amount was repaid.
A subsequent discreet enquiry revealed that the accused, in collaboration with her husband Mohinder Singh Saini (presently posted in JKAP 14th Bn.), had collected a significant amount of cash and gold from multiple women officials, misappropriating approximately Rs. 1.50 Crores and 300 grams of gold.
The investigation uncovered that the accused also ventured into the business of electronic gadgets and furniture items at Battalion headquarters, using it as a means to gain the confidence of innocent investors.
The charge sheet has been filed under relevant sections of the law, including U/S 420, 404, 120-B RPC P/S Crime Branch, Jammu, establishing the offences of cheating and duping against both accused.
The preliminary charge sheet marks a significant step in the legal proceedings, with further investigations ongoing into the case FIR.
