With 36.93 per cent voter turnout recorded by 1 pm, the second phase of the Jammu and Kashmir elections on Wednesday witnessed steady polling amid heavy security deployment, the Election Commission announced. Voting kicked off at 7 am and has proceeded peacefully across the region.
Gulabgarh (ST) in the Jammu region took the lead with an impressive 53.94 per cent turnout, followed closely by Poonch Haveli at 51.57 per cent. In the Kashmir Valley, Khansahib topped the turnout with 45.44 per cent, while Kangan (ST) and Chrar-i-Sharief followed with 45 per cent and 44.26 per cent, respectively.
However, Habbakadal in Srinagar saw the lowest voter engagement, with only 11.14 per cent turnout by early afternoon. The polling, set to conclude at 6 pm, continues under tight security measures to ensure a smooth electoral process across the Union Territory.
