In a significant move aimed at ensuring national security and safeguarding the interests of Jammu and Kashmir residents, the J&K Police have initiated a stringent crackdown on individuals providing shelter to Rohingyas in the region. Thorough investigations and intelligence reports revealed that certain elements have facilitated the illegal settlement of Rohingyas, posing potential threats to security and the socio-economic fabric of the UT of J&K. In response to these findings, the J&K
Police have undertaken targeted operations to identify and apprehend facilitators involved in providing shelter to Rohingyas. The actions taken are in accordance with the law and are aimed at maintaining law and order in the region. Facilitators, once apprehended, will face legal proceedings, and any violation of laws pertaining to national security and immigration will be dealt with firmly.
District-wise actions:
District Jammu:
Jammu Police initiated action against facilitators providing shelter to Rohingyas in Jammu, resulting in FIRs lodged across several police stations. Searches at approximately 40 locations were conducted, leading to the seizure of incriminating documents such as account books, passbooks, rent agreements, Aadhaar cards, credit cards, mobile phones, SIM cards, revenue records, water and electricity bills, vehicle RC details, and bank documents.
District Poonch:
In Gursai area of Poonch, three conspirators among four persons were arrested for creating fake Aadhar and ration cards for a Rohingya man. A case FIR No. 117/2023 was registered, and investigations are ongoing.
District Kishtwar:
Kishtwar Police arrested 13 persons, including six Rohingyas and seven supporters, for procuring domicile certificates, Aadhaar cards, voter cards, and ration cards. Case FIR No. 22/2023 was registered at PS Dachhan, and investigations are being vigorously pursued.
District Doda:
Doda Police registered three FIRs against 10 foreigners (Rohingyas and Bangladeshi nationals) and their facilitators for illegally obtaining Indian identity documents. Searches were conducted, and incriminating materials were recovered as evidence.
District Rajouri:
Rajouri Police arrested a person from Laam area of Nowshera for facilitating a Rohingya woman. A criminal case under FIR No. 215/2023 was registered at PS Nowshera, and further investigations are underway.
The J&K Police emphasized that these actions are essential for maintaining national security and preventing unauthorized settlements that could strain local resources and pose security challenges. Investigations into these cases are ongoing, with a commitment to upholding the rule of law and ensuring the safety of the region.
Yesterday, Kishtwar Police carried out a comprehensive operation targeting the illegally settled Rohingyas in the Dachhan area. Resulting from this crackdown, the police registered Case FIR 22/2023 under various sections of the IPC at Police Station Dachhan. Investigations unveiled that Rohingyas had obtained fraudulent documents including domicile certificates, ration cards, Aadhar cards, and voter cards. As part of the ongoing probe, the police conducted house searches at the residences of individuals like Ghulam Mohd Sheikh, Mushtaq Ahmed, Shahnawaz S/O Ghulam Hassan Mageay, and Fayaz Ahmed Chopan.
