In a significant move to enhance academic qualifications among college faculty, the Higher Education Department of Jammu and Kashmir has instituted a structured framework enabling College Assistant Professors and Associate Professors to pursue part-time Ph.D. programs while fulfilling their teaching and professional responsibilities.

According to an official order, the Director of Colleges, J&K, will invite applications from faculty members annually on March 1 through their respective Principals. The application process requires candidates to submit a detailed statement of purpose, a comprehensive plan for managing their teaching workload, and approval from their Principal.

A dedicated committee, comprising the Director of Colleges and two Nodal Principals, will review the applications. The evaluation will consider the potential impact on teaching quality and institutional duties, allowing up to 10% of faculty per subject per year to enroll in Ph.D. programs at UGC-recognized universities.

This initiative aims to promote academic advancement among faculty members while ensuring that their teaching commitments are not compromised.

The framework reflects the department’s commitment to fostering a culture of continuous professional development within higher education institutions in the region.
