Congress leaders in Jharkhand convened a meeting to determine the new Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader, following the resignation of Alamgir Alam from the position. Alam resigned after being arrested by the Directorate of Enforcement in a money laundering case.
After the meeting, Congress Jharkhand’s in-charge, Ghulam Ahmad Mir, stated that the next CLP leader would be acceptable to all. “The meeting that took place today was necessary… A resolution was passed authorizing the party’s high command to handle everything. Whoever is chosen as the CLP leader will be acceptable to all of us,” Mir told reporters.
Jharkhand Congress President Rajesh Thakur echoed this sentiment, emphasizing that everyone would support the decision made by the party leadership. “Today there was a meeting of the legislative party, it is sad that our legislative party leader has resigned…There was a lot of discussion about who should be given the responsibility and everyone together decided that whatever decision the leadership takes will be acceptable to us,” Thakur said.
He further mentioned that they have communicated the sentiments of the MLAs to the party’s state in-charge, Ghulam Ahmad Mir, who will discuss the matter with the leadership.
Alamgir Alam submitted his resignation for the ministerial post to Chief Minister Champai Soren and as CLP leader to Congress national president Mallikarjun Kharge through the jail authorities. Alam was arrested by the ED last month in connection with a money laundering case.
Following this, Alamgir Alam’s personal secretary and their house help were also arrested by the ED, with officials seizing Rs 35.23 crore from them.
