The agitation of the Jat community in Bharatpur-Dholpur regarding the demand for OBC reservation is ongoing. The Jat community had a meeting with Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma in Jaipur on January 22. After the meeting, it was hoped that the agitation would end. However, no assurance was given to the delegation of 11 members on the issue of reservation.
In this situation, the possibility of a major agitation in the state has surfaced.
Jat leaders had already warned of blocking the Delhi-Mumbai railway track if their demands were not met. Taking this seriously, the administration deployed 150 police personnel for surveillance on the entire railway track. Now, Nem Singh Faujdar, the coordinator of the Jat Reservation Struggle Committee, has warned that a strategy for the agitation will be formulated on Wednesday, and a rail blockade could be initiated on Thursday anytime.
He stated that the agitation would not be suspended until the reservation notification was issued by the central government. Since this announcement by Faujdar, people from the Jat community have started gathering at the agitation site.
Nem Singh Faujdar further explained, “The government’s representative, MLA from Deeg Kumher, Dr Shailendra Singh, had invited the Jat Reservation Struggle Committee for talks. Approving it, the Jat community sent a delegation of 11 representatives to Jaipur for discussion.”
He added, “For the discussion, the government formed a committee of four people, including Kanhaiyalal Chaudhary, Avinash Gehlot, MLA Dr Shailendra Singh, and Jagat Singh. However, only Kanhaiyalal Chaudhary and Dr. Shailendra Singh were present during the initial round of talks.”
Faujdar continued, “During the discussion, we presented our three main demands to the government (reservation for OBC category in central government jobs, appointment of 56 selected candidates in central jobs, and withdrawal of cases filed during the 2017 agitation).
Agreement was reached on two of these demands. But when the time came to meet the Chief Minister, we were informed that the Prime Minister was coming on January 25, and the CM was busy preparing for his welcome. In such a situation, the discussion could not take place.”
