Pakistan SC to hear 1090 pleas against inflated power bills

According to a report by ARY News on Monday, the Pakistan Supreme Court has set a date for the hearing of 1090 petitions challenging inflated electricity bills, which is scheduled for October 16.

The case was heard by a three-member bench of the Supreme Court, with Chief Justice of Pakistan Qazi Faiz Isa presiding.

The court has announced that it will consider arguments and make a decision on the matter on October 16. Additionally, it was noted that there will be no video link facility available on that day, and all parties involved must be present in Islamabad to present their arguments.

Previously, the Attorney General had requested more time, but Chief Justice Qazi Faiz Isa declined the request, stating that the Attorney General should be prepared to present the case within half an hour. The Attorney General, Aamir Rehman, had mentioned that he had not been officially informed about the case but still wished to present arguments.

In response, Chief Justice Isa expressed his belief that Aamir Rehman was a qualified lawyer capable of presenting arguments in the case.

The Chief Justice also observed that there was a backlog of cases related to power prices. Consequently, Justice Faez Isa instructed the Additional Attorney General to prepare arguments within half an hour and announced that the case would be heard after 11:30 am.
