Taking to X, the Embassy posted, “Embassy of India, Tokyo wishes all friends of India a very Happy and Prosperous New Year 2025!” Similarly, Ambassador Sibi George shared his wishes, saying, “Happy New Year 2025.”
As Japan is ahead of India in time zones, it welcomed the new year earlier. Celebrations in other parts of the world showcased dazzling fireworks and public gatherings.
New Zealand was among the first nations to celebrate, with a spectacular countdown at Auckland’s Sky Tower. Thousands thronged the area to join the festivities. Prime Minister Christopher Luxon reflected on the year’s achievements, highlighting a reduction in inflation to 2.2% from 7.2% in 2023.
In Singapore, Marina Bay Sands lit up with fireworks as people gathered for the countdown. Traditional bagpipers performed at the Singapore Cricket Club, adding a unique charm to the celebrations.
Kiribati, a Pacific island nation, was the first to enter 2025, followed by countries like Samoa, Japan, and Indonesia. American Samoa, due to its position near the International Date Line, will be one of the last to celebrate the New Year, nearly a day later.
