G20 Summit : South African President Cyril Ramaphosa arrives in New Delhi

Cyril Ramaphosa, the president of South Africa, was greeted enthusiastically when he arrived in the nation’s capital on Friday to attend the G20 Summit, which is being hosted this year by India. Raosaheb Patil Danve, Union Minister of State for Railways, Coal, and Mines, welcomed him. In March 1997, a strategic alliance was formed between India and South Africa.

According to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), numerous bilateral agreements have been reached between the two nations since the establishment of diplomatic ties in 1993. These agreements cover a variety of topics, including economic and commercial cooperation, defense, culture, health, human settlements, public administration, science and technology, and economic and commercial cooperation. ITEC, India’s program for technical and economic cooperation, has been an effective tool for fostering collaboration in the improvement of human resources.

In 2023, both nations will celebrate 25 years of their strategic partnership and 30 years since the resumption of diplomatic ties with South Africa. PM Narendra Modi attended the 15th BRICS Summit in Johannesburg earlier last month, which was hosted by South Africa. On August 3, New Delhi hosted the 11th session of the India-South Africa Foreign Office Consultations. The Consultations were co-chaired by Ntombizodwa Msutukazi Lallie, acting deputy director-general for Asia and the Middle East at the Department of International Relations and Cooperation in the Republic of South Africa, and Puneet R. Kundal, JS (East and Southern Africa), Ministry of External Affairs.
