Chief Electoral Officer Manish Garg announced today that, as per the guidelines of the Election Commission of India, a special summary revision of photo-electoral rolls for all 68 constituencies of the state for both Lok Sabha and Legislative Assembly elections is being conducted based on the qualifying date of January 1, 2024. He explained that the format of the photo-electoral rolls was published on October 27, 2023, in the offices of every polling centre and related electoral registration officials (EROs and AEROs).
The draft photo-electoral rolls will be available for public inspection and for submitting claims and objections, as appropriate, from October 27, 2023, until December 9, 2023. The qualifying date for this special summary revision is January 1, 2024. However, any eligible citizen who turns 18 years of age by January 1, 2024, can also apply in advance to have their name included in the voter list.
During this revision, only claims received based on the qualifying date of January 1, 2024, will be considered. The disposal of advance applications will be made based on the dates determined by the Election Commission of India after the voter turns 18 years old, specifically on April 1, 2024, July 1, 2024, and October 1, 2024.
For more information, citizens can contact the Election Department’s toll-free helpline service at 1950 between 10:00 AM and 5:00 PM during office hours, using either a landline or mobile phone. It was also mentioned that for the convenience of the general public, special campaign days have been designated for each polling centre on November 4-5, 2023, and November 18-19, 2023.
These days are set to help individuals who are eligible but not yet registered, correct any discrepancies in their entries, and ensure that the names of ineligible citizens are removed from the photo-electoral rolls. The disposal of claims and objections will be completed by December 26, 2023. The final publication of the photo-electoral rolls will be done on January 5, 2024. In this regard, a special meeting was organized today with the recognized national political parties under the chairmanship of the Chief Electoral Officer.
Chandrashekhar Sharma from the Indian National Congress and Dalip Singh from the Aam Aadmi Party were present at the meeting. All recognized national political parties were urged to appoint booth-level agents at each polling centre. It was emphasized that all citizens, local political parties, non-governmental voluntary organizations, women, and youth groups should inspect the photo-electoral rolls at their respective polling centres from October 27, 2023, to December 9, 2023, and provide full support to ensure that the photo-electoral rolls are error-free and up-to-date. If you need any specific information or have further questions, feel free to contact the Election Department’s toll-free helpline service at 1950 during office hours.
