A soldier was injured on Monday when terrorists fired at a newly established army camp in the remote village of Gundha Khawas in Jammu and Kashmir’s Rajouri district. The incident has prompted security forces to launch a search operation amid rising violence in the region.

Defence spokesperson Lt Col Suneel Bartwal stated that a significant terrorist attack on the army post in the village was thwarted. He confirmed that firing was ongoing and that the operation was in progress.

The Nagrota-based 16 Corps reported on X (formerly Twitter) that terrorists attacked the home of a village defence guard at 3:10 am. A nearby army unit responded, resulting in a firefight. “Operations are continuing,” the post read.

The soldier’s injury comes just two days after Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi reviewed the security situation in Jammu on Saturday during a joint meeting with Jammu and Kashmir Police, paramilitary forces, and intelligence agencies.

This incident follows another Terrorist attack on Thursday, where two army personnel were injured in a gunfight with terrorists in Doda. So far this year, 27 people have been killed in nearly a dozen terror attacks across six districts of the Jammu region. The casualties include 11 security personnel, a village defence guard, and five terrorists.
