Jamia Millia Islamia has established three additional departments, thereby increasing the total number of departments at the university to 48. These new departments include the Department of Law within the Faculty of Law, the Department of Dental Sciences, and the Department of Medical Sciences.

According to Jamia officials, no new courses will be introduced under these departments. Registrar Nazim Jafri stated to ANI that while law courses, dental courses, and medical sciences were already part of the university’s curriculum, dedicated departments for them were lacking. He explained, “We already have faculty but there were no departments. So we have created new departments. This is for streamlining the courses and departments. We made amendments to the statute.”

An official order dated March 13 announced the creation of these new departments, with the President of India, in her capacity as the Visitor of Jamia Millia Islamia, granting approval for amendments/additions to the existing Statute 20.

Currently, the university houses 48 departments and 11 faculties. Each department comprises faculty members, researchers, the Dean of the Faculty or Deans of the Faculties, Honorary Professors (if any associated with the Department), and departmental members. Additionally, each department is led by a Head of the Department, appointed in accordance with the university’s statutes.
