Jamia Millia Islamia introduced three new departments, namely the Department of Law, Department of Dental Sciences, and Department of Medical Sciences, expanding the total number of departments in the university to 48.
According to Jamia officials, these new departments are aimed at better organizing existing courses and disciplines within the university framework.
Nazim Jafri, the Registrar of Jamia, clarified that while courses in law, dental sciences, and medical sciences were already being offered at the university; dedicated departments for these fields did not exist until now. The establishment of these departments is intended to streamline academic offerings and administrative structures. Jafri explained that amendments were made to the university’s statute to facilitate the creation of these new departments.
An official order dated March 13 announced the creation of the three new departments, with approval granted by the President of India, who serves as the Visitor of Jamia Millia Islamia. The order highlighted the amendments and additions made to the existing statute to accommodate these developments.
In total, Jamia Millia Islamia now houses 48 departments across 11 faculties. Each department comprises faculty members, researchers associated with the department, the Dean of the respective faculty, any Honorary Professors affiliated with the department, and other departmental members.
Furthermore, each department is led by a Head of Department, whose appointment is governed by the university’s statutes. These additions mark a significant step towards enhancing the academic infrastructure and offerings at Jamia Millia Islamia, ensuring a more organized and focused approach to education and research in these specialized fields.
