External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar ,while addressing the ‘No Money For Terror’ (NMFT) highlighted reasons behind the growing scope , scale and intensity of the terrorist threat in recent years.
“Addressed the ‘No Money For Terror’ conference today. Spoke at the session on promoting international cooperation. Highlighted reasons behind the growing scope, scale and intensity of the terrorist threat in recent years,” Jaishankar tweeted.
He further added, “India, along with like-minded partners, will remain committed and energetic to highlight the existential threats that terrorism poses to global security and stability. We will shine the spotlight on this peril – and all those involved in nurturing and furthering it,” he said.
Jaishankar said, the ‘No Money for Terror’ platform aims to broad base the Big Fight against Terror Financing. “When it comes to terrorism, we will never look away, we will never compromise and we will never give up on our quest to ensure justice.”
The two-day conference organised on 18th-19th November provided a unique platform for participating nations and organisations to deliberate on the effectiveness of the current international regime focused on Counter Terrorism Financing and the steps necessary to address ongoing challenges.
The meeting aimed to increase international collaboration in order to deny terrorists access to funding and permissive jurisdictions.
Jaishankar spoke with Imran Abdulla, the home minister of the Maldives, outside the summit, and reaffirmed India’s dedication to a special relationship.
Jaishankar said, “Good to meet Maldives Home Minister @ShimranAb on sidelines of the ‘No Money for Terror’ Conference. His presence is an affirmation of Maldives’ principled position against terrorism.”
He further said, “Another occasion to reiterate our commitment to our special relationship, discussed the progress of cooperation in different fields.”
In order to emphasise the significance of this conference, Prime Minister Narendra Modi stated on Friday that it should not be viewed as merely a meeting of ministers because terrorism affects all human beings.
Speaking in New Delhi at the NMFT Ministerial Conference on Counter-Terrorism Financing, he claimed that the poor and the local economy are particularly badly hit by terrorism’s long-term effects. Nobody wants a place that is continuously under danger, whether it be for trade or tourism, Modi said.
He continued by saying that terrorism robs people of their means of subsistence. He made the point that it is even more crucial to attack the source of financing for terrorism.
