Farmers in the entire Sirohi district are rejoicing over the abundant rainfall this season, bringing optimism for a prosperous winter crop. The substantial inflow of water into dams across the district is enhancing expectations for a better yield compared to the previous year. The positive impact of the current rainfall has spread joy among farmers in Sirohi, leading to increased water levels in dams. This has prompted farmers to expand the cultivated area, fostering hopes for a bountiful winter crop this year. The Agriculture Department has set an ambitious target for winter sowing, aiming for 90,000 hectares, an increase from the previous year’s 87,951 hectares. As of now, sowing has covered 85,705 hectares, with ongoing efforts to sow wheat and other crops. While the area under some crops may decrease, the overall expectation is for a more successful winter crop season.
Compared to the previous year, the cultivated area for winter crops like wheat, barley, gram, mustard, coriander, cumin, isabgol, garlic, fenugreek, vegetables, and other crops has seen an increase. The only exception is the reduced area under mustard cultivation.
In the winter sowing season of 2022-23, the breakdown of cultivated areas for various crops was as follows: 34,290 hectares for wheat, 773 for barley, 4,858 for gram, 32,739 for mustard, 59 for coriander, 5,300 for cumin, 431 for isabgol, 5 for garlic, 4 for fenugreek, 724 for vegetables, and 8,768 for other crops, totalling 87,951 hectares.
