Before the election announcement, Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot made another significant move to ensure victory for his government. Gehlot had recently created 19 new districts. Now, the matter of 22 new districts can be a game-changer for Congress in the upcoming elections. It is estimated that these 22 districts will have an impact on 40 to 45 seats. The demand for new districts had been going on in the state for years. CM Gehlot successfully fulfilled this demand in the last year of his third term, creating a favourable environment for the party.
There is no doubt that Chief Minister Gehlot is playing on the front foot in the last year of his third term. He has made decisions for government employees and various sections of society along with welfare schemes. He has fulfilled long-standing demands of police personnel and the teaching community. In this regard, the creation of 22 new districts can play a crucial role in securing the government’s victory once again.
Chief Minister Gehlot’s announcement of creating three more new districts in Sujangarh, Malpura, and Kuchaman has surprised everyone. Gehlot made this announcement at a time when the Election Commission officials were discussing election dates and preparations in Delhi. There is speculation that the Election Commission may announce the dates for the elections in five states, including Rajasthan, anytime now. Elections in Rajasthan will likely be held in a single phase. It remains to be seen whether Rajasthan goes to the polls at the beginning or later during the election season. There is a discussion that Rajasthan’s turn may come after the other states this time, as this time, the election in Rajasthan is likely to be different from previous ones.
Currently, there is no political atmosphere against Chief Minister Gehlot’s government, which is a cause of concern for the BJP. The BJP, however, has made many allegations about the Gehlot-led government including, the Red Diary. However, so far, all their hopes are pinned on Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
