The Northern Western Railways has introduced fog safety devices for loco pilots operating on routes with a high prevalence of fog, particularly in the Jaipur and Bikaner divisions. The initiative aims to address delays in train arrivals caused by the impact of fog in various parts of the country. In addition to deploying fog safety devices, the railways have initiated GPS mapping of foggy railway tracks.
The Jaipur and Bikaner divisions often experience dense fog during the winter season, impacting railway traffic. To enhance the safe operation of rail services in fog-prone areas, the railways have implemented special measures, including the installation of fog safety devices on engines.
The fog safety device, once installed on the engine, utilizes GPS technology to inform the loco pilot in advance about the distance to all signals on the track. This enables the loco pilot to safely control the speed of the train, ensuring the well-being of passengers and crew.
Captain Shashi Kiran, CPRO, highlighted that a safety seminar has been organized for railway employees at all levels in divisions prone to fog. The seminar addresses safety protocols during low temperatures, identification and repair of rail or welding failures, and various maintenance activities, such as fish plate conservation and track renewal.
