CM Ashok Gehlot has apologised for the statement he made regarding corruption in the judiciary. On Tuesday, a response was submitted on behalf of CM Gehlot in the Rajasthan High Court. In it, he stated that whatever he had said was not his opinion. He also mentioned that former judges had also made statements about corruption in the judiciary on several occasions. In this context, he had made his statement while criticising the former judges. In his reply, Gehlot said, “If my statement has hurt the dignity of the judiciary, I apologise for it.”
It should be noted that after CM Ashok Gehlot’s statement about the judiciary came to light, there was a stir in the legal community. Lawyers in the state, from the High Court to the district courts, also staged protests against Gehlot.
In the High Court, the Division Bench of Chief Justice A.G. Masih recorded CM Ashok Gehlot’s statement and scheduled the next hearing for November 7th. Advocate Prateek Kasliwal, who represented Gehlot, said that along with CM Gehlot’s response in court, they have also submitted documents related to the statements made by former judges.
Several lawyers had filed petitions.
After CM Gehlot’s statement came to light, former Vice President of the Rajasthan Bar Council Yogendra Singh Tanwar wrote a complaint to the Chief Justice of the Rajasthan High Court. Meanwhile, several lawyers, including advocate Shivcharan Gupta, had filed petitions against Gehlot in the High Court. On Shivcharan Gupta’s petition, the High Court issued a notice to CM Gehlot and sought a response, which was submitted in court today.
